People originally began to call this style of umbrella Janome because it resembles the Janome pattern when seen from above. Now, however, most colorful umbrellas that are slimmer than the Bangasa style are generically called Janome Gasa.

This lovely umbrella is colorful and is light and fragile and is designed for women wearing a kimono.

Because unpatterned umbrellas are also called Janome Gasa, if you sort each item by color, the Janome design is called Shironuki. (It is also occasionally referred to as Sukeroku.)
